In the middle of the 19th century, in the area of current Sinicina Street, a foundation stone of the Rezica Old Believers’ congregation was laid outside the city. First, the cemetery was arranged, and in the end of the 19th century, a wooden church was built that impresses with its magnificent bells, including the 4,832 kg one being the heaviest in the Baltic States.

The Rezekne Old Believers’ congregation is proud of its icon collection, one of the richest in Latvia, made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The prayer hall has one of the most magnificent iconostasis in Latvia with four rows of icons painted by local Old Believer and Orthodox painters. The prayers hall is open and belongs to the Rezekne Old Believers’ Cemetery community, and this sacred building has a status of a local architectural monument.

Although, visitors may not visit the church daily, a museum was arranged at the congregation’s premises where they may familiarise themselves with daily life traditions of the Old Believers’ Congregation.
