One of the city’s natural treasures is the Rēzekne River, which winds its way for 10 kilometres between seven hills. Today, the river’s main highlight is the recently developed river promenade, which has quickly become a favourite walking spot for local residents. Along its entire length, visitors can enjoy peaceful natural corners, picturesque views and well-equipped recreation areas.

The new river promenade connects the Olympic Centre “Rēzekne” with the Latgale Embassy GORS. While strolling along the Rēzekne River, visitors can admire the city panorama from the hillfort square, discover the historical names of the city depicted on bridge bas-reliefs, and visit several attractions along the route – the Latgale Embassy GORS, the youth centre “Zeimuļs” with its distinctive slanted towers, and the ruins of a 13th-century castle.

The promenade also passes the Leščinskis Bridge, near the site of the former Leščinskis Mill (1858), which housed the first water turbine in Latgale (1901). Today, the only reminder of the old mill is the water overflow, which is also the largest rapid on the Rēzekne River.

This route will appeal to nature tourism enthusiasts and is well suited for leisurely cycling and e-scooter rides.
