“Touch” exhibition of musical instrument collection dedicated to the centenary of the Latvian National Museum of Literature and Music
From March 14, 2025 to June 15, 2025, the Latgale Embassy GORS will host an exhibition of musical instrument collections dedicated to the centenary of the Latvian National Museum of Literature and Music (hereinafter – LNRMM) called “Pieskāriens”. Arranged into six groups of instrument types (keyboard instruments, string instruments, bowed instruments, wind instruments, percussion instruments and innovative instruments), the exhibition features a selection of 50 instruments from the museum’s musical instrument collection, spanning the period from the beginning of the 18th century to the present day.
Visitors will be treated to six audiovisual stories and digital and interactive demonstrations of the sound of individual instruments. At the Wall of Masters, it will be possible to learn about musical instrument builders in Latvia. Everyone will be able to work and use their senses, test in practice how much an instrument weighs, create sound games on the Sound Bench, try out the sensory observation simulator Trīsskanis, and work with ‘touchable’ instruments.
The exhibition is designed so that everyone can not only see it, but also hear and feel it – big and small, amateurs and professionals. In cooperation with the SocIntegra association and RTU Liepāja, the exhibition is also especially suitable for people with visual impairments.
Especially for families and children, the exhibition will be complemented by the Pieskāriens workbook. It will contain interesting facts about music and instruments. Crossword puzzles, tasks, coloring pages and many other activities will sharpen the little minds.
