TAILORS’ DAYS AT SILMAČI. THE GREATEST MIDSUMMER TRADITION
It can be said with confidence that when Rūdolfs Blaumanis wrote “Tailors’ Days at Silmači”, he could hardly have imagined that this play would become a true cultural phenomenon. There is no other play in Latvia that has earned such universal love and devotion, passed down from generation to generation by both audiences and performers. It unites different generations and creates a strong sense of belonging and deep roots.
With genuine respect and love for tradition, this production explores and seeks the special code that instantly evokes the scent of meadow flower wreaths, the taste of Midsummer cheese, and the hum of voices that quietly grows into a shared song:
“The Tailors’ Days at Silmači begin, Dūdars and Zāra, and the machines arrive…”
