Ilmārs Rudzišs – painting and installation exhibition “We Are Not Alone”

Opening on July 29th at 3:00 PM

➤ The artist Ilmārs Rudzišs is a native of Rēzekne. He is a graduate of the Rēzekne School of Applied Arts, the Faculty of Education at the Rēzekne Higher Education Institution (now RTU Rēzekne Academy), and the Department of Painting at the Art Academy of Latvia. Having spent over 20 years working at the State Border Guard College, he now teaches woodworking, drawing, and sculpting to children at the Juris Soikāns Ludza Art School.

➤ Regarding the theme of the exhibition, I. Rudzišs responds with a counter-question: “Are you interested? Yes, the theme is somewhat distant and full of sarcasm. I want to ask: do you know who you really are? Why is everything the way it is? It is about endings and beginnings. There are more questions than answers. The cosmos, a flat or round earth? Let us each search for answers to the questions that interest us. Why are cities the way they are? People are overcome by fear. The most interesting thing is that there is nothing and no one to fear. I express my thoughts through paintings, drawings, and, if one can say so, sculptural objects.”
