Anatolijs Zelčs – Painting Exhibition ’61st Kilometer'”

The painter Anatolijs Zelčs, a docent at the Latvian Academy of Art’s Latgale branch, is primarily known in his creative work as a representative of portrait and figurative painting, blending realism with rugged materiality, fine detail, and sarcastic irony.

However, in this exhibition, “61st Kilometer,” a different artistic perspective emerges—one rooted in an indeterminate, formless world where mood and emotion take center stage. Recently, the artist has moved away from his usual fine detailing, instead experimenting with paint application techniques—mainly in acrylic—exploring compositional play through abstracted fields.

The exhibition primarily features works created over the past year, reflecting the artist’s emotional state and his approach to freely interpreting genre, allowing for spontaneous narrative discoveries.
