Rezekne Green Synagogue: Celebrating 10 Years Since Renovation

The Rezekne Green Synagogue is celebrating its 10th anniversary following its renovation! Ten years ago, following meticulous international restoration, the Rezekne Green Synagogue was reborn. As the only wooden synagogue in Latvia to retain its original appearance, it has become an important symbol of Latgale’s Jewish heritage

Today, it is a vibrant cultural space hosting concerts, exhibitions, and educational events. The synagogue and its surroundings have also inspired creative projects: Viesturs Kairišs’ feature film ‘The City by the River’ ( “Pilsēta pie upes”) was filmed here, while in the square opposite stands a memorial stone dedicated to one of the city’s oldest Jewish families, the Kuklya family. Looking back at the past years, a festive anniversary event took place on August 2nd, where visitors could explore the updated exhibition, discover the new cultural-historical library, enjoy flavors of Jewish cuisine, and listen to a performance by “Latgales Klezmeri”.
