On May 17, Rēzekne will host European Museum Night events — a wonderful opportunity not only to visit traditional museum exhibitions during the evening but also to take part in special activities. This year’s Museum Night in Rēzekne offers a particularly rich program across seven locations: the Latgale Culture and History Museum and the Art House, the Rēzekne Green Synagogue, the Rēzekne Old Believers’ Religious Community Complex, the exhibition house Brīvvalsts dārgumu nams, RTU Rēzekne Academy, and the art salon Mōls.
Experience Museum Night in Rēzekne this year!
It offers the chance to explore traditional cultural and historical values, take part in creative workshops, guided tours, and concerts for all visitors — and enjoy vibrant dance rhythms at the Latgale Culture and History Museum, at the foot of the castle mound near Brīvvalsts dārgumu nams, and in the courtyards of the Art House and Mōls art salon!
Latgale Culture and History Museum (19:00–00:00)
At 19:30, the women’s choir Medicus will perform Rēzekne’s anthem, The City with a Rose in Her Hair. Exhibitions include: “Across the Threshold” – dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Latgale Congress., “The Miracle Born of Clay and Fire” – Latgalian ceramics., “Rēzekne Through the Ages”, Solo exhibition by painter Anatolijs Zelčs, 61st km, Anniversary exhibition by artist Agra Ritiņa, A Tribute to Inspiration – to NATURE, “Latgale Art” (at the Art House). Creative workshops will also be available. Military equipment will be on display outside the museum in cooperation with the 32nd Infantry Battalion of the National Guard.
21:30–22:30 – live concert by the band “Disnejlenda”
Rēzekne Green Synagogue (19:30–00:30)
Explore the synagogue interior and exhibits, enjoy engaging thematic lectures and creative workshops. In the synagogue courtyard, traditional Jewish stew cholent will be cooked and offered for tasting. There will also be a workshop on making and printing Jewish pancakes.
Rēzekne Old Believers’ Religious Complex (19:00–23:00)
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the complex — including the St. Nicholas Prayer House, the smaller prayer house, the Old Believers’ Museum, and the bell tower which houses the heaviest bell in Latvia.
Exhibition House “Brīvvalsts dārgumu nams” (19:00–00:00)
Explore the main exhibition Treasure Vaults and the porcelain miniature sculpture exhibition Caution! Fragile!.
May 17 is Firefighters’ and Rescuers’ Day — in honor of this, State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) equipment will be displayed in the parking lot, and visitors can learn about the firefighter profession. Families with children can take part in the creative workshop Polymer Clay Jewelry.
The evening will be enriched with live music and dancing in the courtyard.
RTU Rēzekne Academy (18:00–24:00)
Museum Night guests are invited to a student and alumni food fair featuring traditional and modern Latvian products, tastings, a permanent exhibition TimePack, and guided tours according to a set schedule.
Art House (19:00–23:00)
Take part in discussions about the history of rock music in Rēzekne, the preservation of the Latgalian language, and the safeguarding of local cultural heritage. DJ Jānis Gailums will ensure a musical atmosphere with a special vinyl DJ set featuring his personal record collection.
The exhibition Latgale Painting can be explored through an educational interactive game.
Art Salon “Mōls” (19:00–22:00)
The program includes a guided tour of the art salon, an exhibition by the Latgale Retro Auto Moto Club, live sculptures and creative workshops, the youth performance Country Love, a disco with DJ ADRIAN VAN SIN, and the Artcore association’s exhibition Shadows in Museum Night.
